On 6 May 2024, Rajah & Tann Asia organised an event titled “Borneo Conversations with Rajah & Tann Asia” in Brunei focusing on “Optimising Logistics & Supply Chains in Energy-Driven Economies: Challenges, Compliance & Competition”.
As global trade grows more complex, businesses in energy-dependent economies face increasing challenges from supply chain vulnerabilities and regulatory scrutiny to tighter trade controls and shifting geopolitical dynamics and tariff policies. At the seminar, the speakers provided practical, high-level guidance on addressing these challenges, with a particular focus on supply chain and logistics operations as well as cross-border contracts. Topics covered included: (i) best practices in structuring effective supply chain contracts; (ii) legal mechanisms for dealing with geopolitical uncertainty; (iii) the effects of investment treaties, trade sanctions, and evolving tariff policies on market access and operational efficiency; and (iv) strategies for resolving disputes in cross-border transportation and supply chain management.
The speakers comprised Partners Kendall Tan, Head of Rajah & Tann Asia’s Brunei Business Unit, Aleksandar Anatoliev Georgiev from the Shipping & International Trade Practice, Joshua Seet from the Competition & Antitrust and Trade Practice, and Khairil Suhairee from the Corporate Commercial Practice. They were joined by Bernice Yeoh from the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) and Chris Ng from Muara Maritime Services.
